Prof. André Klarsfeld
Vice-President and General Secretary
A former student of the École Normale Supérieure and an agrégé in physics, André Klarsfeld later specialized in biology. He obtained a PhD from the Institut Pasteur under the supervision of Professor Jean-Pierre Changeux, after which he pursued a research career at the CNRS. Since 2011, he has been Professor of Physiology at the École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris (ESPCI Paris), within the Brain Plasticity Laboratory.
His research focuses on the biological clock and neurodegenerative processes, particularly in Drosophila. Deeply committed to knowledge transmission, he is actively involved in science communication through lectures, publications and books for the general public. He is also a member of the steering committee of the Espace des Sciences Pierre-Gilles de Gennes (ESPGG), which promotes dialogue between scientific research and society.
In this context, since 2017 he has been exploring the links between neuroscience and education, and how scientific knowledge can inform and enrich educational practices. He has supported Graines de Paix since its creation in 2005.
Sharing knowledge and reflecting on the societal role of science have always been central to his commitment. In line with the objectives of Graines de Paix, he is particularly interested in building bridges between scientific inquiry, knowledge mediation and peace education, convinced that these approaches can help shape more aware, responsible and open-minded citizens.
