Quality Education

Peace education increases access to inclusive and quality education.  It allows teachers to holistically transition from an authoritative and frontal teaching style towards a child-centred and active approach.  In addition, the teaching of psycho-social competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, empathy and cooperation have proven links to better learning achievements.

Despite enormous gains in access to education, gains in actual learning are lagging behind.  250 million children around the world are not learning basic skills even though half of them spend at least four years in schools.  This quality failure has an estimated cost of around US $129 billion (UNESCO, 2013 p.31).  The latest research tells us that the single most important factor to improve learning outcomes is quality teaching (Hattie, 2008), that is, teaching which is learner-centred, participatory and nurturing.

Graines de Paix improves learning and school achievement by:

  • Helping teachers to use quality active, participatory and learner-centred techniques
  • Teaching psychosocial competencies (self-esteem, cooperation, empathy, critical thinking and proactiveness) with a strong proven correlation to learning outcomes.
  • Improving attendance as less children drop-out or miss classes due to fear of going to school
  • Creating nurturing and inclusive classroom environments and improving student-teacher relationships.
